Database: JakoJako On Getting A Bit Of Distance

“As soon as a track is finished, or I think it’s time to put it to the side and start something new, at that point it’s good to actually leave some time in between before you listen to it again–you get a little bit of distance. As soon as you turn the track on you hear what’s wrong: which frequencies are annoying, where it’s clashing, what is trying to fight against some space. What also helps for me is sometimes exporting individual stems and treating it like a remix, treating it like it’s not my stuff. Having a clear project, putting on everything EQ and some Utilities [Ableton channel strip plug in]. It’s more objective.”
